WWW Wednesday #8

WWW Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. The Ws are the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you plan on reading next?

current

📖 Heaven Official’s Blessing by Moxiang Tongxiu  —  online fan translation // I’m finally continuing my reread of one of my two most favorite books of last year! It’s long as fuck (it’s 5 books in case you didn’t know) and I’m currently also studying for my exams so I’m doing it slowly, but I love it even more than the first time.

🎧 In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado —  ALC // I went into this memoir about abuse in a same-sex relationship knowing it wasn’t going to be an easy read, and it’s really not. It’s also an incredibly good and honest book, I can easily see myself giving it 5 stars for lack of a better criterion to judge nonfiction and especially memoirs. It’s really triggering but fortunately the audiobook is relatively short and I got through 40% of it in one go.

finished

📘 The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho — e-ARC // this was the ARC I tried the hardest to get and I can’t believe I finally got to read it! I really liked it and I’m not supposed to review it until two weeks before it comes out (why?) so I still have some time to sort my thoughts out. I gave it a rating of 4/5 stars on Goodreads and I still need to understand if I rounded up from 3.5 or rounded down from 4.5, I think I will know that once I write my review. Anyway I highly recommend it!

🎧 The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski  —  audiobook // this was SO good and so so so SO evil (classic Marie Rutkoski). OH but most of all it was hella sapphic I am FLUSTERED.

next

46734428

🎧 The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett  —  audiobook // this is the second f/f YA fantasy I preordered this month and I am going to start it as soon as I finish my current audiobook, I have no idea what to expect I’m just here for the gay!

  1. I love how there are now so many F/F fantasy books that we can both be reading several of them and still have barely any overlap! A significant achievement even only compared to two years ago.

I read some more of TWD today and still have mixed feelings (there’s still far too much space dedicated to skeevy dude; I get why but it’s the same thing over and over) but I’m only halfway through, so I hope we both end up liking it!

    1. it’s true!! i think it’s only the second time we read one almost at the same time (i’m starting TWD tomorrow — first time was probably when we read the impossible contract 🐪) and that’s because we were both anticipating it and it just came out (and we both have time for stay-at-home reasons)!

mmmmhhhhhh i’m going to look out for the viscido dude when i start TWD, hopefully he won’t bother me too much (or i’ll just increase the audiobook speed dshflsh), i’ll let you know!

      1. …so it almost only happens when we do it on purpose! 🐪 This time, accidental half-buddyread, I guess?
I think speeding past Sigis (…I was convinced his name was “Sigus” until a moment ago, I love audiobooks) is a great strategy and I should probably do the same at this point.

  2. I keep hearing so many excellent things about the Midnight Lie! I’ve also heard it’s set in Winner’s Circle(?) universe; does that mean you have to have read other books to enjoy TML or does it work on its own?

    1. You definitely don’t have to read that first, don’t worry!! I think the next book will have more to do with ~previous characters in that way that if you’ve already read the series you will be glad to see them again, but if you’re new you won’t miss out (though I really liked that trilogy back then and I’d recommend checking it out, although I do feel a little icky about the whole slave thing now)

  3. Great post! 😀 I also requested for “The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water” and still pending. I have no high hopes as I just started my NetGalley recently. 😆 But very excited for its release. 😀
