๐ŸŽง Beauty Queens by Libba Bray ย ย โ€”ย  audiobook on Scribd // this is a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while and I’m so glad I found it on Scribd because I wouldn’t have started it anytime soon otherwise, but it’s making me laugh so much! I’m about halfway and it reminds me a lot of a more humorous version of The Nowhere Girls, in that it has a similar goal of portraying how many different ways there are to be a young woman and it grants each of 12 girls stranded on an island a point of view, agency and freedom to both go against and conform to societal expectations. For a book written in 2011 (!!!) it doesn’t feel outdated at all (okay, maybe a little? but I legit thought it was from 2015 or something and only now realized how old it is).

๐Ÿ“˜ The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo ย ย โ€”ย  e-ARC // I unfortunately didn’t love this as much as everyone did. My review will be up next week (or you can check it out on goodreads) but yeah, it’s definitely a case of it’s not you it’s me. I still recommend checking it out because it might be something you end up loving.

๐Ÿ“• Queen of Coin and Whispers by Helen Corcoranย  ย โ€”ย  e-ARC // I’m excited for this! It’s a YA f/f fantasy about a queen and her spymaster falling in love and that’s all I need to know. I need to make sure I start it at a good time because I can feel the reading slump approaching, but I hope it will grab my attention right away.

๐Ÿ“– The Unconquered City by K.A. Dooreย ย โ€”ย  e-ARC // I’m so happy I got an ARC of this!! The Chronicles of Ghadid series was one of the most pleasant surprises of last year for me and I’m both happy and sad to see it end with this installment. While book two could be read on its own, sort of, this third book depends more on past events so you should try to at least read The Impossible Contract first. You can read my review here if you need convincing. Oh, also this has a f/nonbinary romance and I have a massive crush on the love interest, they’re just so smooth?? I think this might be my favorite romance of the three books but I’ll wait to judge until the end.

๐ŸŽง/๐Ÿ“– Days Without End by Sebastian Barry ย โ€”ย  e-book and audiobook from scribd // I had no idea this book even existed until one of my mutuals told me it has soft gays. And soft gays it has! It has also very real and awful war things so it’s not exactly an easy read. The style also doesn’t make it so, with the main character narrating the events to us. I am doing something I don’t usually do and reading some chapters on audio and others with a digital copy and it’s working for me. It’s a book I want to read slowly but I hope by the end it’ll be a bit softer than it is now.

๐Ÿ“˜ Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire ย โ€”ย  audiobook from scribd // I finally decided to continue this series now that Scribd offered everyone a free trial. Too bad the fourth book isn’t there yet, but I really enjoyed re-reading Every Heart a Doorway and reading Down Among the Sticks and Bones for the first time. This third book was maybe my least favorite so far but it was still lovely to listen to. I generally highly recommend this series for its diversity and the variety of stories Seanan McGuire offers us through it.

๐Ÿ“• The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo ย โ€”ย  e-book // I know almost nothing about this but I’ve been really into novellas and Asian-inspired books lately, and this is both. Everyone loves it and it’s supposed to be gay so I don’t know why I wouldn’t read it.

๐Ÿ“– Days Without End by Sebastian Barry ย โ€”ย  e-book // I started this after a mutual recommended it to me (all I had to hear was “soft gays” and I one-clicked it, also because it was very cheap). It’s not at all what I was expecting, the writing is very unique and a constant narration from the MC. It tells about horrible things in the war so it’s not an easy read but the MC is in an established relationship with another man and every time he mentions him it’s so lovely. Also, from reviews I’ve seen, #theyhaveadaughter.

๐ŸŽง Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert ย โ€”ย  ALC // I’m FINALLY reading this after receiving both a digital ARC and a listening copy. I’m audiobooking it so far because I had some chores to do but I think I will read most of the last 50% with my digital ARC. Talia Hibbert never disappoints and this book doesn’t disappoint either.

๐Ÿ“˜ The Pursuit of… by Courtney Milan ย โ€”ย  e-book // this was a reread I had been looking forward to since the moment I first finished this novella. I don’t really know how to express the pure JOY I felt while reading this, both the first and the second time. It’s just, such an unadulterated queer story and I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time, I highly recommend it as it’s my #1 favorite novella of all times (and you guys might know I don’t usually have an easy time declaring something is my absolute favorite).

๐Ÿ“• Nottingham: The True Story of Robyn Hood by Anna Burke ย โ€”ย  e-book // this was one of my most anticipated releases of January and I finally got myself a digital copy. I figured if I don’t do this while in forced quarantine time then I might as well call myself a fake sapphic.

๐Ÿ“– Heaven Official’s Blessing by Moxiang Tongxiu ย โ€”ย  online fan translation // I’m finally continuing my reread of one of my two most favorite books of last year! It’s long as fuck (it’s 5 books in case you didn’t know) and I’m currently also studying for my exams so I’m doing it slowly, but I love it even more than the first time.

๐ŸŽง In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado โ€”ย  ALC // I went into this memoir about abuse in a same-sex relationship knowing it wasn’t going to be an easy read, and it’s really not. It’s also an incredibly good and honest book, I can easily see myself giving it 5 stars for lack of a better criterion to judge nonfiction and especially memoirs. It’s really triggering but fortunately the audiobook is relatively short and I got through 40% of it in one go.

finished

๐Ÿ“˜ The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho โ€” e-ARC // this was the ARC I tried the hardest to get and I can’t believe I finally got to read it! I really liked it and I’m not supposed to review it until two weeks before it comes out (why?) so I still have some time to sort my thoughts out. I gave it a rating of 4/5 stars on Goodreads and I still need to understand if I rounded up from 3.5 or rounded down from 4.5, I think I will know that once I write my review. Anyway I highly recommend it!

๐ŸŽง The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski ย โ€”ย  audiobook // this was SO good and so so so SO evil (classic Marie Rutkoski). OH but most of all it was hella sapphic I am FLUSTERED.

next

๐ŸŽง The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett ย โ€”ย  audiobook // this is the second f/f YA fantasy I preordered this month and I am going to start it as soon as I finish my current audiobook, I have no idea what to expect I’m just here for the gay!

๐ŸŽง Don’t Believe A Word: The Surprising Truth About Language by David Shariatmadari โ€”ย  ALC // I got this ARC through libro.fm and I’m actually really enjoying it! This is nonfiction about language and linguistics and it’s very very interesting. I don’t know how this is going to appeal to people who study/studied this subject but I am personally learning a lot of things I didn’t know.

๐Ÿ“– Crystal Caged by Elise Kova โ€”ย  e-ARC // I can’t believe this is the last book in this series, I’m enjoying it and I can’t wait to see how it ends. I’m listening to the ARC with a read-out-loud app while I do chores because I don’t have time to sit down and read long books right now but I might have to read some parts on my own especially towards the end.

๐Ÿ“˜ Cancer Ships Aquarius by Anyta Sunday โ€”ย  e-ARC // I looooooved this so much! It had been a while since the last book in this series came out and I was reminded again of why I love this series and this author. It was also my first m/m book after doing fffeb and I’m proud of me for waiting until March 1st to read it instead of starting it right when I got it.

next

๐Ÿ“• Finna by Nino Cipri โ€”ย  e-book // I preordered this and I can’t wait to start it! I technically already read half a chapter but then I was too sleepy to actually start a new book so I decided to wait a bit and then I haven’t had a chance to read (more like: I only read f/f fanfiction for the past two days).

๐ŸŽง The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski โ€”ย  audiobook // I’m SO excited for this!!!! I’m going to wait and finish my other audiobook first so I can fully enjoy it without guilt. I said it before but authors who have previously written straight books (which I loved when I read them years ago) coming out with sapphic books is THE best thing that can happen to the book community and I’m so here for it.

๐Ÿ“– The Weight of Living by M.A. Hinkle โ€”ย  e-ARC // I’m really enjoying this f/f romance between a trans woman and a cis woman. The book is third in a series I haven’t read but it’s pretty understandable and there’s only a few cameos from previous characters. It’s the type of romance I wouldn’t necessarily call fun but more like, interesting to read and really well written.

๐ŸŽง A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine โ€” audiobookย  // I’m going through this very quickly despite it being very long, just because I love it. It’s not the easiest book to get into in this format (I’ll be bold and say in every format) but it’s also not the hardest, and once I got through the first couple of chapters I was hooked.

๐Ÿ“˜ Learning Curves by Ceillie Simkiss โ€” ebook // this was pretty good, the kind of soft contemporary f/f romance that’s cute to read but to be honest doesn’t really stay with me. It’s one of the many kinds of stories we still need though and I really appreciated its representation.

next

๐Ÿ“• That Could Be Enough by Alyssa Cole โ€”ย  ebook // I know this is the same I had on this category last week, but I decided to actually start my ARC first since it was more urgent. I’m pretty confident I’ll end up reading this next though, even though I’m not sure it will still be on time for FFFeb.

๐Ÿ“• Finna by Nino Cipri โ€”ย  ebook // as soon as FFFeb is over I also want to start this which just released yesterday! It has a f/nonbinary romance as far as I know and it sounds too good to postpone (but I am a mood reader so we’ll see I suppose gshdhlh)
